CRIMINAL LAW/MOTORING MATTERS
A page you are visiting out of interest, or one borne out of necessity?
To be accused of a criminal act can often be a life changing experience. Whether it is a serious assault, or something as mundane as a motoring offence, we can help you. Losing your licence can produce the same result. Either way, we aim to provide the same high level of service.
The criminal law has developed rapidly in recent years. For example, the police can now arrest a person for any offence, so long as certain criteria are met. This allows the arresting officer considerable discretion, and substantially widens the power of arrest. We will guide you through the legal minefield with a caring and informative approach.
So, whether it is:
• advice and assistance at the police station (24 hours/day and FREE irrespective of income)
• advice about pending proceedings before the Magistrates Court
• Representation at those proceedings (now subject to means testing if in employment, but FREE if on certain benefits, under 18 and in full time education, or under 16)
• advice and representation in proceedings before the Crown Court
• advice on appeals
we have a representative who can assist you.
Partner, Richard Prew has over 18-years post-qualification experience.
Richard is also qualified to appear in the higher courts.
Solicitor Waseem Chowdhary is fluent in both Punjabi and Urdu.

THE ROLE OF THE FAMILY SOLICITOR
At CTurner, our primary objective is to find a solution for each individual situation.
The initial consultation is very important and can be either by telephone or face to face. This discussion will take between 30minutes to 2 hours during which we will reach a clear understanding of your needs and what is required and to set a path forward. We would aim to provide an estimate of potential costs involved.
We give the first 30minutes of our initial consultation free of charge, following which, our charges are by competitive hourly rate or by an agreed fix fee.
The role of the family Solicitor is to:
• To guide and assist through what is often an extremely difficult experience
• To minimise conflict
• To provide a fair and honest opinion
Divorce
In England and Wales there is one ground for divorce and that is that a marriage has irretrievably broken down, but this can only be proved by one of 5 "Facts", namely:
• Unreasonable behaviour
• Adultery
• Two years desertion
• Two years separation with consent
• Five years separation without consent
We offer a fixed fee for undefended divorce proceedings in the sum of £600.00 + VAT and Court Fees.
Children issues and financial issues are charged separately.
Financial Settlement
Settlements vary from case to case according to circumstances and marital status.
a) Married Couples/Civil Partners
Financial issues are resolved by reference to a list of factors which include needs, resources, expectations and conduct to achieve "Fairness" of asset division.
b) Unmarried Couples
Division of property depends primarily on Legal ownership of the property, but individual financial contributions and the intention of the couple are also extremely important.
We at CTurner will always aim to find a workable solution through open discussion and fair negotiation. If Court intervention is required, we have a wealth of experience to bring to more contentious situations.
Children
We deal with all child related issues including:
• Contact - including weekly and holiday contact
• Residence
• Maintenance and financial provision
• Parental responsibility
• Care Proceedings
• Grandparents rights
We appreciate the importance of reaching amicable solutions wherever possible.
Domestic Violence
This difficult area requires an urgent and effective response as well as a sympathetic and understanding approach. We will always prioritise domestic violence situations.
Agreements
We understand that not all situations are contentious and where a couple are in agreement and simply require assistance to formalise the terms of an agreement, we can offer:
• Cohabitation agreements
• Separation agreements
• Prenuptual agreements

We believe that we have a highly regarded 'team'. Many of their cases are via recommendation from other lawyers, professionals and past clients.

PERSONAL INJURY
People are undoubtedly wary of the ambulance chasing culture that seems to have taken over. We don’t believe in blanket coverage, or in your face advertising.
We take a more low key approach.
However, we have a department that boasts many years of experience in this area.
On that basis we feel we can offer realistic views on your prospects of success, consider the appropriate method of funding for your claim, and have access to a bank of experts, that all help make your case progress smoothly.
Paul Garner heads the department.
Please contact him on 01254 688400 or email
